The Bonny Swans (Les Beaux Cygnes)

Voici une légende européenne bien connue. L'aînée, jalouse de l'amour qu'un prince porte à sa soeur cadette, la pousse dans la rivière. Celle-ci, ne sachant pas nager, se noie. Mais la jeune fille, par sa pureté de coeur, se transforme en cygne. Deux jeunes ménestrels recueillent le corps mort de l'oiseau et fabriquent une harpe avec différents parties de son corps. Et ils s'en vont jouer à la cour du Roi, le père de la jeune fille noyée. Quand le Grand Roi apprend l'histoire, il tue la meurtrière, qui est aussi sa propre fille. On a repris cette légende des dizaines de fois, sous plusieurs versions différentes.
