Big Brother and the Holding Company est un groupe de rock formé en 1965 à San Francisco, US.
Il est fondé par Peter Albin, Sam Andrew et James Gurley. Ils sont rejoints par Janis Joplin en 1966.
Leur premier album 'Big Brother & the Holding Company' est sorti en 1967.
Janis quitte le groupe en 1968.
Depuis 2018, le groupe est composé de Peter Albin (basse), Dave Getz (batterie depuis 1966), Tom Finch (guitare depuis 1997), Darby Gould (chant depuis 2015) et David Aguilar (guitare depuis 2018).
