Louis : Ironically, we wrote that song in rainy England. No sunflowers, but longing for the sunflowers. I think maybe the sun had come out on this day, but it had been like quite a miserable week. And we were about three weeks away from going to Costa Rica at this point.I’m sure the other guys are much more professional than me, but like I couldn’t really concentrate those sessions. All I could think about was going to Costa Rica. But also like frustratingly it was like, ‘Oh, this is good that we’re doing the songs here,’ but I was so excited about what it was going to do to the sessions, being in Costa Rica that was also I kind of found it frustrating. I was like, ‘Yeah, but let’s get there and see what happens.’ So ‘Sunflowers 'was pretty much longing for somewhere like Costa Rica and that kind of idea and more imaginative of what it would be like to be in that place.
Ironiquement, nous avons écrit cette chanson sous la pluie en Angleterre. Pas de tournesols, mais une envie folle de tournesols. Je crois que le soleil avait fait une apparition ce jour-là, mais la semaine avait été plutôt maussade. Et à ce moment-là, nous étions à environ trois semaines de notre départ pour le Costa Rica. Je suis sûr que les autres sont bien plus professionnels que moi, mais je n'arrivais pas vraiment à me concentrer pendant ces sessions. Je ne pensais qu'à une chose : le Costa Rica. Mais en même temps, c'était frustrant : "C'est bien qu'on enregistre les chansons ici", mais j'étais tellement impatient de voir ce que ça allait donner aux sessions, d'être au Costa Rica, que c'en était presque frustrant. Je me disais : "Oui, mais allons-y et on verra bien." Donc, 'Sunflowers' exprimait surtout ce désir d'un endroit comme le Costa Rica, cette idée, et une vision plus imaginative de ce que ce serait d'y être.
