Lors d'une interview accordée à The Zach Sang Show en janvier 2026, Tomlinson a expliqué la signification des couplets de cette chanson
"The thing with ‘Broken Bones’ is like, within my fan base anyways, I famously shattered my arm and utterly broke it bad. So, I thought it was a little bit tongue and cheek. I kind of like that. I quite literally broke my bones and probably will do it again. Hopefully not. I have a nature of just occasionally getting it wrong. I can be a little over excited, a little overzealous or a little overfamiliar. If my life’s taught me something, it’s I occasionally put my foot in it, be like either say something I shouldn’t say or drop kick a TV until you shatter your arm. I actually wouldn’t (Want it another way), but I do remember waking up from this injury thinking my body is never going to be the same again. And for the sake of four vodka rebels, I’m not sure it was worth it. But hey, it’s a good story. I get to write a song called ‘Broken Bones,’ so there you go. And obviously, it’s also a metaphor for like fame and all of that, and I would (do it all again). There’s definitely parts of this job that take a lot from you, but the payoff is worth it. Those live moments, those moments of the shows, that’s why I do what I do."
"Le truc avec 'Broken Bones', c'est que, du moins pour mes fans, je me suis fracturé le bras, et pas qu'un peu. Du coup, je me suis dit que c'était un peu ironique. J'aime bien l'idée. Je me suis littéralement cassé les os et je risque de me le refaire. J'espère pas. J'ai tendance à faire des erreurs de temps en temps. Je peux être un peu trop enthousiaste, un peu trop zélé ou un peu trop familier. Si la vie m'a appris quelque chose, c'est que je fais parfois des gaffes, que je dis des bêtises ou que je défonce la télé à coups de pied jusqu'à me casser le bras. Franchement, je ne voudrais pas que ça se passe autrement, mais je me souviens m'être réveillé de cette blessure en me disant que mon corps ne serait plus jamais le même. Et pour quatre verres de vodka, je ne suis pas sûr que ça en valait la peine. Mais bon, c'est une bonne histoire. J'ai même pu écrire une chanson intitulée 'Broken Bones', alors voilà. Et évidemment, c'est aussi une métaphore de la célébrité et tout ça, et je recommencerais sans hésiter. Il y a des aspects de ce métier qui sont vraiment épuisants, mais le jeu en vaut la chandelle. Ces moments en direct, ces instants magiques des concerts, c'est pour ça que je fais ce métier."
