Carefully I lower all the window shutters
Closing all the drawers and the doors, I utter
Tiny little phrases that I try to recall
Locking them away, I know that there must be more
There must be more, there must be more
Carefully I place my shoes right next to the chair
Using every fibre I will picture them there
Tiny little tricks I use in hopes to recall
Locking them away, I only sense there is more
There must be more, there must be more
What is the time?
What is the day?
How will I know
Everything strays
Far from the truth
What I recall
Everything blurs
Washed up ashore
Waking from my slumber I have been here before
But I do not recognise that frame on the wall
In the textured paint strokes I can see there’s a man
Staring back at me as if he can understand
As if he knows
What does he know?
Can he see inside
Of my mind
All the tricks played
Where mem’ry hides
How will I know?
Everything is new
But so strange
Shoes by the chair
But they’re not there
Another day break and another day begins
Another blank slate and my mind begins to spin
Another game to play, another rhyme to solve
How can I be a player if I can’t recall?
I know there’s more. I think there’s more?
I find a note
Written by my hand
Ink that runs
I cannot stand
I’ve come undone
My vision gone
Cannot read the script
That I penned
Can I forgive
Begin again?
He is a man without a record or a past
His mornings turn to evening, going by so fast
His eyes are kind although his mind rages with war
And may his thoughts surrender, may they heed the call
Take down the wall
There’s nothing more
